During a presentation at Anime NYC, REMOW confirmed that the television anime adaptation of The Moon on a Rainy Night (Amayo no Tsuki) is currently in production with a 2027 premiere window. The series, which has garnered a dedicated following since its 2021 debut on Kodansha's Comic Days platform, tells a poignant story of connection between Saki, a piano student, and Kanon, a hard-of-hearing classmate with a guarded personality.
The production is being helmed by director Tomoe Makino, known for her work on Aharen-san wa Hakarenai. Joining her is Shōgo Yasukawa, who will oversee series composition and scripts, bringing experience from titles like Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma. The animation will be handled by studio CompTown, with character designs provided by Ayumi Nishibata, whose previous work includes Migi & Dali.
Kuzushiro’s original manga currently spans 12 volumes in Japan, with Kodansha USA handling the English digital release. The story explores the delicate intersection of music, communication, and blossoming romance as Saki works to bridge the gap between herself and the icy, isolated Kanon. With the 2027 release date now on the horizon, the project joins a growing list of character-driven dramas slated for the coming years.
