GKIDS has unveiled an English-subtitled trailer and new posters for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's acclaimed one-shot manga, Look Back. The film is slated for release in 2026, with plans for theatrical runs in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland.

Directed and edited by Hirokazu Kore-eda, known for his work on "Shoplifters," the film also features a screenplay penned by him. Yūta Bandō, who previously worked on "BELLE" and "Kaiju No. 8," is composing the musical score. The production has assembled a notable crew, including Senzo Ueno for photography and Masachio Nishida for lighting, among other key roles in sound, art direction, and costume design.

The live-action Look Back had its debut screening at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival on May 15. This adaptation follows the successful theatrical anime film version of Fujimoto's manga, which opened in Japan in June 2024 and performed strongly at the box office, earning approximately US$1.40 million in its first three days. GKIDS also brought the anime film to North America in October 2024, where it garnered US$688,253 in its opening weekend.

Originally published on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021, the Look Back manga quickly garnered significant attention, achieving over 2.5 million views on its first day. Viz Media released the manga digitally and in print in September 2022. The story centers on two young girls, the confident Fujino and the reclusive Kyomoto, whose shared passion for drawing manga brings them together in a poignant tale of growth and perseverance, from the creator of "Chainsaw Man."
