Netflix has unveiled a new video offering a glimpse into Wit Studio's upcoming remake of the One Piece anime. The short clip showcases initial character designs and concept art, giving fans a preview of the visual direction for the fresh adaptation.
Directed by Masashi Koizuka, with Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda serving as character designers and chief animation directors, the remake is being produced by Wit Studio, known for its work on titles like Attack on Titan and SPY x FAMILY. Studio president George Wada has previously stated that the new series will feature a tighter narrative pace compared to Toei Animation's long-running original, aiming for a quality comparable to Wit's other acclaimed late-night anime. The project, announced at Jump Festa '24, is set to begin its adaptation from the East Blue Saga, commemorating 25 years of the anime's history.
Key staff involved include Hideaki Abe as assistant director, Yasuhiro Kajino for image board and creature design, Eri Taguchi on prop design, Taku Kishimoto for series scripts, Ken Imaizumi and Shuhei Fukuda as action animators, Tomonori Kuroda as art director, and Ryōma Kawamura as animation producer.
This remake news follows recent adjustments from Toei Animation, which announced a reduction in its original anime's annual episode output to a maximum of 26 starting in 2026. This change aims to allow for greater incorporation of manga content and pacing. The original anime recently returned on April 5th with the start of the new Elbaph arc after a three-month production hiatus.
