Ghost in the Shell's new television anime, produced by Science SARU, has confirmed its Japanese voice cast. Maaya Sakamoto reprises her iconic role as Motoko Kusanagi, joined by Kazuhiro Yamaji as Daisuke Aramaki, Hiroki Yasumoto as Batou, and Yūichi Nakamura as Togusa. The full cast also includes Kōsuke Gotō as Ishikawa, Tōru Nara as Saito, Marie Ōi as Operator, Tomoko Kaneda as Fuchikoma, Chafūrin as Minister of Home Affairs, Naomi Kusumi as Volgarena Representative, Hiroshi Yanaka as Vice Minister Ito, and Tomoko Miyadera as Union Leader.
Mokochan makes his directorial debut with the series, working from scripts written and overseen by Toh Enjoe. Shūhei Handa is handling character designs and serves as chief animation director, with music composed by Taisei Iwasaki, Ryō Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka. The series features an opening theme "Go Ghost" by King Gnu and an ending theme "Blue" by MILLENNIUM PARADE feat. Saya Gray, Daniel Caesar.
The anime premiered on Kansai TV and Fuji TV on July 7, with streaming immediately following on Amazon Prime Video Japan. The series is available for simultaneous worldwide streaming on Prime Video in over 240 countries and regions, excluding mainland China, Russia, and Vietnam. Earlier in June, the anime had its global premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, screening its first two episodes.
This new anime is part of the long-running Ghost in the Shell franchise, which has seen numerous anime films and series, including the acclaimed 1995 film produced by Production I.G. The franchise's cyberpunk themes and exploration of artificial intelligence have garnered critical acclaim, with past entries like the 2015 movie holding a 7.43 score on MyAnimeList from 18,000 voters.
