The PuniRunes franchise is expanding once again with the announcement of its fourth season, PuniRunes Puni 4. A newly released promotional video highlights the upcoming season's shift to a school-based narrative, with the story officially set within the halls of 'Puni School.'

To mark the occasion, the production team has tapped the female comedy duo Ganbareruya to voice two new characters, Sanrun and Tsukurun. Beyond their voice acting roles, the duo will also serve as 'cheer captains' to promote the new season. The series is scheduled to begin its broadcast run on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations starting October 4 at 9:15 a.m.

This latest installment follows a rapid release schedule for the franchise, which saw its third season debut just over a year ago in July 2025. While the anime has maintained a consistent presence on Japanese television since its 2022 premiere, international accessibility has grown through Spin Master’s YouTube distribution, which began in September 2024 alongside the toy line's release in the United States.

Why it matters: The transition to a school setting suggests a potential shift in the series' episodic structure compared to the previous three seasons. With the franchise maintaining a steady annual release cadence, it remains to be seen if this new arc will introduce permanent changes to the core cast or if it serves as a temporary thematic departure.
