The upcoming television anime adaptation of Matsurika Kanriden (The Legend of Bureaucrat Matsurika) has unveiled its first promotional video, offering a glimpse into the historical fantasy world created by author Rinne Ishida. The trailer also introduces the series' opening theme, "Hanabanashi," performed by the popular rock band KANA-BOON.
Production is currently underway at studio Maho Film, with Yuuichi Nakazawa serving as director. The project features series composition by Touko Machida and character designs by Manami Inose. The production team also includes sound director Yasunori Ebina, known for his work on Hell's Paradise, and composer Takurou Iga.
Alongside the trailer, the production announced three key cast additions: Takeo Ootsuka will voice Tenga Rei, Koutarou Nishiyama joins as Shisei Hou, and Shou Komura takes on the role of Shunsetsu Shou. The series is slated for a January 2027 broadcast across major Japanese networks, including Tokyo MX and MBS.
Since its debut in 2017 under the B's-LOG Bunko imprint, the light novel has spawned a significant franchise, including a long-running manga adaptation by Waka Takase and a spin-off series, Juusansai no Tanjoubi, Kougou ni Narimashita. With the 18th volume of the source material released in late 2025, the anime adaptation arrives as the franchise continues to maintain a steady presence in the historical fantasy genre.
