Pony Canyon has unveiled Maiden Blood, an ambitious original television anime project currently slated for a 2027 premiere. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser visual and promotional video, offering a first glimpse into the series' grim, apocalyptic world where human blood serves as both currency and a weapon against demons.
The project is spearheaded by veteran director Seiji Kishi (Angel Beats!) and series composer Makoto Uezu (Assassination Classroom). The core cast features Iori Saeki as the combat-focused Eva and Yukari Anzai as her sister, Epica, whose blood is the key to unlocking Eva’s destructive potential. The production team also boasts notable talent, including original character designer LAM (takt op.Destiny) and a musical score composed by Keiichi Okabe and the team at MONACA.
Behind the scenes, the series has been in development since 2020, originating from Uezu’s pitch for a dark, hardcore action narrative unburdened by standard broadcast limitations. The project's intensity has already posed challenges for the production committee, with Kishi revealing that early drafts were deemed too extreme for television. Negotiations with broadcasters are currently underway to ensure the series retains its uncompromising vision.
Set in a world decimated by an Evil God after the collapse of humanity, the story follows Eva and Epica as they navigate a landscape of eternal darkness. With the project being handled by Polygon Pictures, the show aims to deliver a unique aesthetic inspired by the brutal sensibilities of Western RPGs.
