The upcoming live-action adaptation of Look Back, the emotional one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, has confirmed a September 11, 2026, premiere date in Japan. A new trailer accompanying the announcement provides a first look at the film's expanded ensemble cast, which features Masaki Suda as the Weekly Shōnen Jump editor Maeda, Kankurō Kudō as a school teacher, and Kayo Noro as Fujino’s mother.

Helmed by acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda, who is handling both the screenplay and editing, the project brings a distinct cinematic pedigree to the source material. The production team also includes composer Yūta Bandō, known for his work on BELLE and Kaiju No. 8. Rounding out the newly announced cast are Ryō Ikeda as the father, Miyu Sasaki as the sister, and Maho Yamada as a middle school teacher.

Following its initial showcase at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year, the film is set to reach international viewers through GKIDS. The distributor has secured rights for theatrical releases across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland, expanding on the successful North American run of the 2024 anime adaptation.

This live-action project follows the massive success of the 2024 anime film, which dominated the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. With the creative vision of Kore-eda behind this adaptation, the project aims to capture the same poignant exploration of artistic ambition and friendship that made Fujimoto's original 2021 story a breakout hit on Shonen Jump+.
