Following the historic success of the Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One, TOHO has unveiled the first teaser for its direct sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero. Set in 1949—just two years after the events of its predecessor—the film sees the return of director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki. Composer Naoki Satō is also back to helm the score, with production currently moving forward at TOHO Studios and visual effects work handled by Shirogumi Inc.
The project is making technical history as the first Japanese production to meet the requirements to be marketed as "Filmed for IMAX." The newly released teaser confirms that Min Tanaka will join the franchise as biologist Kanji Murakami, working alongside returning stars Ryūnosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, and Hidetaka Yoshioka.
In a departure from traditional staggered international rollouts, the film will debut in Japan on November 3—coinciding with the franchise's traditional "Godzilla Day." North American audiences will get their chance to see the film just days later on November 6, with additional releases planned for Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania during the same week. This aggressive global strategy arrives following TOHO's acquisition of GKIDS in 2024.
