TOHO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, the upcoming film from Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki. The brief preview confirms the new movie will be set in 1949, placing it two years after the events of its Oscar-winning predecessor.
The film is slated for release in Japan on November 3, which coincides with "Godzilla Day," the anniversary of the original 1954 film's debut. This marks the first time a Japanese-produced Godzilla film will premiere simultaneously in Japan and North America, with GKIDS and TOHO set to release it stateside on November 6.
Takashi Yamazaki is reprising his roles as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor for Godzilla Minus Zero. Production is currently underway at TOHO Studios, with ROBOT producing and Shirogumi Inc. handling the visual effects. Story and cast details are expected to be announced at a later date.
Godzilla Minus Zero follows the massive global success of Godzilla Minus One, which has grossed over $116 million worldwide and earned an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The film is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix, with additional digital purchase and rental options available in North America.
