The upcoming live-action series Vacance no Hōsoku (The Vacation Rules) has released a new trailer, providing a first look at the romantic drama alongside the debut of its opening theme song, "I Got Your Back" by the group ILLIT. This project serves as a creative departure for manga creator Akiko Higashimura, who is taking on the roles of writer and director for a live-action series for the first time.
The story follows Midori Hoshino as she attempts to escape the monotony of her daily life by retreating to a vacation estate. Her solitude is interrupted when she encounters the estate's enigmatic caretaker, Nishigami. The series features Kanna Hashimoto—known for her roles in the live-action Kingdom and Gintama adaptations—as Midori, while South Korean actor Chae Jong Hyeop takes on the role of Nishigami.
Beginning July 27, the series will air on the ABEMA Special channel. The production is structured as a series of 18 short-form episodes, each running approximately 15 minutes. New episodes will be available to stream for free every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Higashimura is a prolific creator whose works, such as Princess Jellyfish and Tokyo Tarareba Girls, have consistently seen successful transitions to live-action and animation. Given her track record of critical acclaim, including a Manga Taisho award for Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey, this original concept represents a unique addition to her portfolio.
