Kadokawa has provided a first look at the upcoming feature film Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase! (Space Academy: Find the Aliens Who Accidentally Came Out!). The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s narrative, which follows the aspiring astronaut Kotetsu and his classmates as they embark on a mission to track down potential extraterrestrial life. The footage also showcases the film's unique visual approach, which integrates both original animation from studio Fanworks and authentic, real-world space footage.
Alongside the visual reveal, it was confirmed that Shōko Nakagawa will perform the film’s theme song, titled "Uchū no Nanchara Nakama" (Space Friend). The production sees the return of key staff from the television series, including scriptwriter Yōichi Katō, while Yoshinori Tsutsui steps into the director's chair. The original voice cast is also set to reprise their roles for this cinematic outing.
This film expands on a franchise that has captured a dedicated audience since its 2019 manga debut. The original television anime, which ran for 64 episodes across two seasons on NHK Educational between 2021 and 2023, established a charming, lighthearted take on the sci-fi genre. Beyond the main series and the upcoming movie, the franchise has previously explored its premise through the Uchuu Nanchara Kotetsu-kun Planetarium side story, further cementing its commitment to blending space education with comedy.
