Toei has officially unveiled plans for a live-action feature film based on the high-stakes survival manga Darwin's Game, created by the duo FLIPFLOPs. The project is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on March 12, 2027. Accompanying the announcement, the studio released a teaser trailer and visual, providing a first look at the production's aesthetic and core cast.

The film will be helmed by director Fumihiko Sori, known for his work on the live-action adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist and Tomorrow's Joe. Sori is also co-writing the screenplay alongside Hayato Miura. The lead role of Kaname Sudo will be played by Taishi Nakagawa, with Kōki cast as the fan-favorite character Shuka. Rounding out the primary cast are Mei Hata as Rain, Fūju Kamio as Ryūji, and Kōji Yamamoto as Hiiragi.

This adaptation brings the intense mobile-game-turned-death-match premise back into the spotlight. The original manga, which ran in Bessatsu Shōnen Champion from 2012 to 2023, follows the story of Kaname, a high school student forced into a reality-bending battle royale after downloading a mysterious app. While the 2020 television anime adaptation served as a solid introduction for many viewers, the upcoming film aims to tackle the source material with a fresh cinematic scope.
