A special double-length episode of The Simpsons, titled "The Simpsons Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition," has been promoted with a striking visual parody. The episode's promotional poster directly homages the American movie poster for Satoshi Kon's 2006 anime film Paprika. The new artwork features a silhouette of Marge Simpson, filled with imagery from the episode, mirroring the iconic design of the Paprika poster which uses a silhouette of its titular character.

While the visual pays clear tribute to Kon's work, the episode's thematic connection to Paprika is more subtle, reportedly exploring similar themes of dreams. "The Simpsons Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition" became available for streaming exclusively on Disney+ last Wednesday.

This is not the first time The Simpsons has delved into anime and Japanese pop culture for inspiration. Previous "Treehouse of Horror" episodes have featured homages to series like Attack on Titan, Naruto, PokΓ©mon, Bleach, One Piece, and Spirited Away, as well as tributes to Japanese icons like Godzilla and a notable Death Note parody animated by DR MOVIE. Since Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, The Simpsons has continued to produce streaming-exclusive content that often parodies various film and television franchises, including Disney's own properties.
