Bungo Stray Dogs is expanding its manga universe with a new spinoff series. Shikiji Sorakura will launch the comic adaptation of "Dazai o Hirotta Hi" (The Day I Took In Dazai) in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine on July 3. This story originates from a novel included as a moviegoer bonus for the 2022 live-action film, Bungo Stray Dogs the Movie: Beast.
The new manga will delve into the past of Osamu Dazai and Sakunosuke Oda, exploring the events that led to and concluded their "Black Era." The original Bungo Stray Dogs manga, created by Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa, has been serialized in Young Ace since December 2012 and recently finished its initial run. The franchise has already seen significant success with multiple anime seasons, including a highly-rated third season which holds an 8.2 on MyAnimeList from over 376,000 voters, and the Dead Apple film.
This latest addition joins other spinoffs like Bungo Stray Dogs: Wan!, which has also received an anime adaptation. The prolific franchise, known for its action, detective, and supernatural elements, continues to explore its rich world and characters through various media. The original manga's 28th compiled volume was released in March, with Yen Press handling the English localization.
