Attendees of this year’s Anime NYC are getting an early look at one of the winter 2027 season's most anticipated fantasy titles. The event will host the world premiere of the first two episodes of Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized! on August 22, giving fans a head start before the series hits airwaves in January.

The show follows Wim Strauss, a 'granting caster' whose ability to buff allies is undervalued by his original party, leading to his eventual exile. His fortunes shift when he is recruited by his childhood friend Heidemarie into Nachtlibelle, an elite guild that recognizes his true potential. The series serves as an adaptation of Haka Tokura’s popular light novel, which has already spawned two separate manga adaptations.

Production is being handled by J.C.Staff, with Hideki Okamoto (known for 2.5 Dimensional Seduction) in the director’s chair. The series script is helmed by Takao Yoshioka, while the musical score is a collaborative effort between Yūki Hayashi, Luke Standridge, and Asa Taylor. The voice cast features Reiji Kawashima as Wim and Hana Hishikawa as Heidemarie.

Following its premiere, the series is slated for a broad broadcast release in Japan across Tokyo MX, MBS, and BS11, with international streaming confirmed for Netflix. The project is produced by StarryCube and represents a significant new entry in the 'kicked out of the party' fantasy subgenre.
