ROCK'N ROLL MOUNTAIN, the animation studio behind Kenji Iwaisawa's ON-GAKU: Our Sound and 100 Meters, has announced a new short anime adaptation. The project brings Akiko Okuda's short manga Rusuban (House-Sitting) to the screen.

The film will premiere at Tokyo's K's Cinema in Shinjuku on August 1, running for a single week. It will be presented alongside a screening of Iwaisawa's 2010 short anime Yama. Rusuban is set in August 1987 and follows a young girl named Tokko as she house-sits a large residence while her family is away.

This project marks the directorial debut of Ayumi Yanagisawa, who previously served as assistant director on Iwaisawa's 100 Meters. Unlike Iwaisawa's previous rotoscoped work, Rusuban will feature traditional hand-drawn animation from the studio's younger staff. Yanagisawa is also handling storyboarding and editing for the film. The cast includes Kokoha Tachibana, Yuka Katō, Atsuyoshi Miyazaki, Mitsuho Kanbe, Aimi Imai, and Akane Katsuki.

The original Rusuban manga is part of Akiko Okuda's 2019 short manga collection Shinzō. The collection was published by Glacier Bay Books as part of their Glaeolia indie manga series.
