The television anime adaptation of Akane-banashi is set to return for a second season in January 2027. The announcement came alongside the conclusion of the first season's Karaku Cup Arc this past Saturday.

Alongside the renewal news, six new voice actors have been revealed to join the cast. Hōchū Ōtsuka will voice Miroku Kashiwaya, Ryōtarō Okiayu is set as Shomei Tsubakiya, Hiroshi Naka joins as Enso Sanmeitei, Mutsumi Tamura will voice Urara Ransaika, Shinichirō Miki is Ryu'un Kenputei, and Tomokazu Seki takes on the role of Chocho Konjakutei. These characters were all introduced in the first season's finale.

The second season will pick up with Akane Osaki graduating high school and officially becoming an apprentice to Shiguma Arakawa, embarking on her professional career as a rakugoka under the name Akane Arakawa. The first season, directed by Ayumu Watanabe at ZEXCS, premiered in April 2024 and has been available internationally on platforms including Netflix, aniverse, ADN, Anime Box, Anime Generation, and the official Akane-banashi Global YouTube channel.

The original manga by Yūki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue, which launched in February 2022, has received critical acclaim, earning nominations for the Kodansha Manga Awards and Manga Taisho. It is published in English by Viz Media and on Shueisha's MANGA Plus service.
