Masaru Satō's novelization of Junji Ito's seminal horror manga Uzumaki has concluded its serialization. The final chapter appeared in the July issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original Zōkan magazine, which hit shelves on June 12.
Satō launched the novelization project in February 2019. A compiled volume of the novel is slated for release at a later date. The original manga, which chronicles the descent into madness of a town obsessed with spirals, was first published in 1998-1999 and later received an omnibus release from Viz Media.
The Uzumaki franchise has seen multiple adaptations, including a live-action film in 2000 and a recent anime series that aired on Adult Swim's Toonami block in September and October 2024. The anime is available digitally via platforms like Amazon and Google Play, and streams on Max.
Masaru Satō, a former senior analyst for Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is also known for the Yūkoku no Rasputin manga, illustrated by Ito. Uzumaki marks Satō's debut novel.
