The latest installment in the Mononoke franchise, Mononoke the Movie: Chapter 3: Snake God, has entered the Japanese box office at number six. The film earned ¥117,426,720 (approximately US$734,000) in its opening three days. Hiroshi Kamiya returns as the Medicine Seller, with Kenji Nakamura serving as general director and Tomoaki Koshida directing at Studio Kafka and EOTA. Aina The End provides the theme song "No Epilogue." This follows the previous films, Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain and Mononoke the Movie Trilogy: Chapter 2: The Ashes of Rage.
Meanwhile, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie maintained its position at number two for its sixth weekend. The animated sequel from Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal Pictures sold 151,000 tickets and grossed ¥205,436,210 (about US$1.28 million) over the weekend. The film has now achieved a total of 5.18 million tickets sold and ¥7.13 billion (around US$44.61 million) cumulatively.
Elsewhere in the charts, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway continues to perform exceptionally well, holding steady at number four in its eighth weekend. The 29th Detective Conan film sold 144,000 tickets and earned ¥219,896,000 (about US$1.37 million) this past weekend, pushing its total earnings to over ¥12.76 billion (approximately US$79.79 million). This marks the fourth consecutive film in the franchise to surpass the 10 billion yen milestone.
The live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days dropped from fifth to seventh place in its fifth weekend, earning ¥76,493,700 (about US$478,100). The film has accumulated ¥2.55 billion (around US$15.94 million) to date. The live-action Shōjiki Fudōsan also saw a decline, falling from sixth to ninth in its third weekend with ¥56,229,960 (about US$351,500) and a total of ¥528,914,820 (around US$3.30 million).
