The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the animated sequel from Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal Pictures, has fallen from the top spot at the Japanese box office. In its fifth weekend, the film sold 203,000 tickets, earning 276,962,830 yen (approximately $1.73 million USD). This brings its total domestic gross to 6,819,837,230 yen (about $42.74 million USD) on 4.94 million tickets sold since its April 24th release in Japan.
Meanwhile, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, the 29th film in the long-running franchise, continues its impressive run. In its seventh weekend, it secured the #4 position, earning 277,492,600 yen (about $1.73 million USD) from 189,000 tickets. The film has now amassed a total of 12,404,866,900 yen (approximately $77.74 million USD), making it the fourth consecutive Detective Conan movie to surpass the 10 billion yen mark.
Other films showing continued box office presence include the live-action adaptation of Yuuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days manga, which held steady at #5 in its fourth weekend, earning 115,246,500 yen (about $722,200 USD). Its cumulative total now stands at 2,403,602,400 yen (approximately $15.06 million USD). The live-action The Honest Realtor, based on the manga by Mitsuhiro Mizuno and Akira Ōtani, dropped from #4 to #6 in its second weekend, bringing in 99,333,340 yen (about $622,500 USD) and a total of 397,301,260 yen (approximately $2.48 million USD).
Both the anime film Patlabor EZY: File 1 and The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE - Yotsuba Succession Arc - have fallen out of the top 10 after their respective second and third weekends in theaters.
