Tanuki to Kitsune (Raccoon Dog and Fox) is finally heading to television this fall, with Frontier Works confirming an October 4 debut. The series will find its home within the Sunday morning Animori programming block on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations.
To mark the franchise’s 10th anniversary, the production has tapped director Tommy Hino—known for his work on Kumarba and Crane Game Girls—to helm the project at Akatsuki Media Studio. The script duties have been assigned to Rika Kihara. Along with the premiere date, a new key visual has been unveiled, showcasing the gentle, comedic dynamic between the titular, slightly scatterbrained raccoon dog and his playful fox companion.
Originating as a viral hit on X (formerly Twitter) by creator Atamoto, the series has grown into a massive multimedia success with 1.35 million copies of its manga and picture books in circulation. While the franchise previously saw a run of web anime shorts in 2018, this upcoming television broadcast represents a significant expansion for the pair of mountain-dwelling friends. Fans of the source material can also look forward to the October 15 release of the second volume of the spin-off series, Tanuki to Kitsune Yurutto.
