Veteran manga artist Masashi Ueda is bringing three of his long-running series to a close. Otoboke Buchō Dairi and Kariage-kun concluded their serialization this week, with Shin Furiten-kun set to wrap up on July 10. The final chapter of Otoboke Buchō Dairi appeared in Houbunsha's Manga Time, while Kariage-kun concluded in Futabasha's Manga Action. Shin Furiten-kun's finale will be published in Takeshobo's Manga Life Original.

Kariage-kun, a four-panel comedy manga about a mischievous salaryman, has been in circulation since 1980, marking 46 years of serialization. The series has previously inspired a 1989 anime adaptation and a 2023 live-action drama. Otoboke Buchō Dairi, which launched in 2017, is the sequel to Ueda's Otoboke Kachō series. The final compiled volume for Otoboke Buchō Dairi is expected this winter.

Shin Furiten-kun is a modernized take on Ueda's 1979 Furiten-kun manga, which also spawned a film and OVA. Ueda reportedly decided to end the three manga concurrently, expressing a desire to continue his newspaper comic Kobo-chan for as long as possible.

Kobo-chan has been serialized in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper since 1982 and inspired a television anime from 1992 to 1994. The series faced a hiatus due to Ueda's health issues, including a diagnosis of prostate cancer, but resumed publication in 2023.
