The dark fantasy franchise Magical Girl Raising Project is returning to television this autumn with the adaptation of the Restart light novel arc. The series is set to debut on TV Tokyo on October 5 at 2:00 a.m., with follow-up broadcasts scheduled for AT-X and BS Fuji starting October 7.
This production sees a change in animation houses, with Synergy SP taking over the reins from Lerche, the studio that produced the original 2016 anime. Despite the studio shift, the series retains key creative staff from its predecessor, including director Hiroyuki Hashimoto, screenwriter Takao Yoshioka, and sound director Satoki Iida. Masako Itou, who previously contributed SD character designs, steps into the role of lead character designer, adapting Maruino’s original illustrations.
Known for its subversion of the magical girl genre, the series blends high-stakes survival horror with urban fantasy. The narrative centers on a social game that grants players extraordinary powers, only to force them into a lethal tournament when the administration demands the number of magical girls be halved. Following the 12-episode run of the 2016 original, this new project looks to continue the grim, high-pressure atmosphere that defined the franchise's debut. Minori Chihara and Daisy×Daisy are confirmed to provide the opening and ending theme songs, respectively.
