The live-action adaptation of Toshiya Wakabayashi’s Happy Kanako's Killer Life is expanding its ensemble for its sophomore outing. DMM TV announced on Friday that three new performers have joined the cast, each portraying fellow assassins working alongside the series' protagonist, Kanako.
Aoi Morikawa will step into the role of Ado, described as a stylish and highly efficient operator, while Hikaru Takahashi joins the production as the enigmatic Nana. Rounding out the new additions is Sayu Suzukawa, who plays Yui, a 16-year-old colleague with a unique ability to detect deception. These new recruits will join returning leads Non and Taisuke Fujigaya, who continue their portrayals of the titular Kanako and her prickly coworker, Sakurai.
Behind the camera, the production retains its creative core. Tsutomu Hanabusa, known for his work on the Tokyo Revengers live-action films, returns to direct the series. He is also collaborating on the scripts with Ruriko Matsushima and Yūsuke Aose.
The series, based on Wakabayashi's popular four-panel web manga, follows Kanako’s absurd transition from a dissatisfied office worker to a surprisingly talented contract killer. Following the success of the first season, which debuted on DMM TV in February 2025, the show continues to adapt the source material published by Seikaisha. English-speaking audiences can follow the original manga through Seven Seas Entertainment, which has been steadily releasing the series in print.
