Inklore revealed at its Anime Expo panel on Friday that it has acquired the license for Tomoko Yamashita's Ikoku Nikki manga. The publisher plans to release the first print volume in Summer 2027.

Ikoku Nikki chronicles the unusual cohabitation of 35-year-old novelist Makio Kōdai and her 15-year-old niece, Asa. Makio impulsively takes Asa in after the death of Asa's parents, who were Makio's older sister and brother-in-law. The story explores their adjustment to living together, with Makio struggling to adapt to having company and Asa navigating life with an adult who often behaves immaturely.

Tomoko Yamashita's Ikoku Nikki originally ran in Shodensha's Feel Young magazine from June 2017 to June 2023, concluding with its 11th compiled volume. The manga has garnered significant critical acclaim, including a nomination for the 28th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2024, a #5 ranking on the women's list of the 2024 Kono Manga ga Sugoi!, and topping Da Vinci's 23rd annual "Book of the Year" for manga in December 2023. It was also nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho awards in 2020.

The series previously inspired a live-action film released in June 2024 and a television anime that premiered on January 4, 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the anime adaptation under the title Journal with Witch.
