The Japanese holiday of Tanabata, observed annually on July 7th, saw the anime and manga industries participate in the tradition of writing wishes. This festival, the last of the year where the day and month share the same numerical value, commemorates the legendary once-a-year celestial meeting of the weaver princess Orihime and the ox farmer Hikoboshi, separated by the Milky Way.

Both children and adults traditionally pen their desires onto colorful paper strips, known as tanzaku, which are then attached to bamboo branches. This practice allows individuals to send their hopes and dreams out into the universe, mirroring the romantic tale at the heart of the Tanabata legend.

The anime and manga worlds, known for their rich storytelling and cultural connections, embraced the spirit of Tanabata, with various creators and fans sharing in the festive atmosphere and expressing their own aspirations.
