The live-action film adaptation of KOTAKE CREATE's popular horror game Exit 8 has opened in North America, debuting at number eight on the U.S. box office charts. The film pulled in an estimated US$1,404,500 over its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
NEON, the distribution company behind critically acclaimed films like Parasite, is handling the North American release. The film began its theatrical run on Friday. This follows a strong opening in Japan last August, where Exit 8 ranked second and secured the highest opening weekend earnings for a live-action film in Japan for 2025.
Directed and written by Genki Kawamura, known for his producing work on acclaimed anime films such as your name. and Suzume, the movie stars Kazunari Ninomiya. Ninomiya, a veteran actor and singer, has previously appeared in numerous live-action adaptations, including Gantz and Assassination Classroom.
The Exit 8 film adapts the premise of the infinite-loop horror game, which tasks players with navigating a seemingly endless subway passageway. To escape, players must identify subtle anomalies that signal danger, all while continuing to move forward.
