Unapologetic Projects is developing a U.S. live-action series based on Satoru Hiura's popular manga Hotaru's Way (also known as Hotaru no Hikari). The news comes from a report by Deadline.

The story centers on Hotaru, an executive assistant who maintains a polished professional image but prefers a messy, low-key personal life. Her carefully separated worlds collide when her boss unexpectedly moves back into her apartment, forcing her to confront her aspirations in her career, love life, and adulthood.

Angela Nissel, known for her work on Scrubs, and Sasha Leigh Henry of Workin' Moms are penning the script. Paige Hooper, Motoko Kimura, and Kate Kugler are producing the series for Unapologetic Projects.

Satoru Hiura's original manga ran in Kiss magazine from 2004 to 2009, spanning 15 volumes. The franchise also includes sequel series, Hotaru no Hikari SP (2014-2017) and Hotaru no Hikari BABY (2017-2021). The manga has previously been adapted into two Japanese live-action television series and a feature film released in 2012.
