Crunchyroll is making moves to broaden its reach, announcing plans to expand its anime streaming service into Taiwan and South Korea. The company revealed that localization efforts will commence in Taiwan this summer, with a subsequent launch in South Korea slated for later this year. This expansion follows closely on the heels of Crunchyroll's recent entry into Thailand in February, which saw the introduction of a Thai-language interface and content.

According to reports, Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini confirmed the expansion during the APOS conference in Bali. The service intends to invest significantly in content, localization, marketing, and community building for both new territories. This strategic move aims to bring a more tailored anime experience to fans in these key Asian markets.

These international expansions come as Crunchyroll continues to grow its global subscriber base, recently surpassing 21 million paid members worldwide. The company, an independent joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex, has been actively working to solidify its position in the global anime landscape since its acquisition by Sony's Funimation Global Group in 2021.
