The 33rd installment in the Crayon Shin-chan film franchise, Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation), made a strong start in its Japanese theatrical debut. The film secured the #3 spot at the box office, selling 441,000 tickets and generating approximately 539.37 million yen (roughly US$3.41 million) over its first three days.
Directed by Masaki Watanabe, known for his work on Sakamoto Days, the film follows the Nohara family as they visit Hiroshi’s hometown of Akita. The trip takes a supernatural turn when yōkai escape their realm, forcing the family into an unpredictable adventure across a nostalgic, mysterious world. The screenplay was penned by Yoshiko Nakamura, a veteran of the Re:ZERO franchise.
This latest release continues the massive legacy of the Crayon Shin-chan series, which first began airing in 1992 and maintains a dedicated following with a 7.82 score on MyAnimeList from over 44,000 voters. The franchise remains a powerhouse for Shin-Ei Animation, consistently producing annual features and spin-offs like Super Shiro that expand the world of Shinnosuke Nohara.
The production team tapped Sairi Itō to voice the nine-tailed fox yōkai, Yako, alongside series regulars Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Satomi Koorogi. The film, which is currently being distributed by TOHO, also features the theme song "Otona ni Nattara" by singer TOMOO.
