TV Tokyo and the short-form production company Plott have announced Mecha Samurai, an original anime project featuring character designs by Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei. The series follows a group of samurai who combat mechanical ghosts called "Yōkai" that emerge from an interdimensional "Demon Gate" to threaten modern Japan. The cast includes Kentarō Mashiro as protagonist Chiaki Kuzumi, Riona Yamashita as Sana Fujimiya, and Ayumu Mizukami, who voices both Kiyoharu Obana and Kaoru Rindō. Masaaki Mizunaka is also confirmed for the cast, with graphic design handled by TO2KYO2. According to the announcement, the project will debut with vertical shorts on November 2 across YouTube, X, Instagram, and TikTok. A pre-season episode is scheduled for November 20 on YouTube, ahead of a full series launch in spring next year. This production represents TV Tokyo's first foray into an anime model based primarily on streaming and social media distribution.
