Sanrio has officially announced that the character Kuromi will star in her first feature-length film, titled Kuromi the Movie. According to the announcement, the film is set to be distributed by GAGA and will open in Japanese theaters in 2027. While the official website for the project has launched, details regarding international distribution remain unconfirmed, with the production committee stating that information for territories outside of Japan will be released at a later date.

Kuromi first appeared in the 2005 television series Onegai My Melody before evolving into a standalone franchise icon. Her popularity has remained consistent, with the character securing a top-five position in the annual Sanrio Character Ranking for the past six years. Her recent screen history includes the two-part anime short series Kuromi's Pretty Journey (2023–2024) and the stop-motion production My Melody & Kuromi, which premiered on Netflix in July 2025.
