South Korean media company RIDI has announced the upcoming closure of Kanta, its dedicated short-form live-action platform in Japan. The decision comes just over a year after the service's initial launch in July 2025, which aimed to bring Korean-produced short dramas to the Japanese market.

In an official statement, the company framed the shutdown as a strategic restructuring of its business portfolio. By exiting the short-form video sector, RIDI intends to concentrate its resources on its primary fan community platforms, which center on webtoons, digital comics, and web novels. The company cited the volatile nature of the global content market as a primary driver for this consolidation.

Despite the closure, RIDI plans to retain the production knowledge and user engagement data gathered throughout Kanta's lifespan. The company intends to leverage these assets to bolster its existing intellectual property portfolio, exploring new avenues to monetize and adapt the content previously featured on the platform.
