Square Enix has announced that both Octopath Traveler and its sequel, Octopath Traveler II, are making their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. The ports, which were revealed via a new trailer, will launch physically and digitally in Western markets on October 1. While the titles are already available digitally in Japan, the company confirmed that there are no plans to offer an upgrade path for players who already own the original Switch versions.

Beyond the lack of a discounted upgrade, the publisher noted that save data will not be compatible between the original Switch releases and the new hardware versions. This requires players to start from the beginning if they choose to experience the HD-2D RPGs on the updated console. The announcement serves as a commemorative milestone for the series, which celebrates its eighth anniversary this year.

This release follows a busy period for the franchise, which has expanded significantly since the original title launched in 2018. The series now includes the prequel Octopath Traveler 0, released late last year, and the mobile entry Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. Despite the technical limitations regarding save transfers, the arrival of these titles on the Switch 2 highlights Square Enix's commitment to maintaining the accessibility of the core series on Nintendo hardware.
