The new live-action Street Fighter film, produced by Legendary Entertainment, claimed the top spot at the U.S. box office during its opening weekend. According to reports from Deadline and The Wrap, the film earned an estimated $31 million domestically and an additional $20.1 million across 65 international markets, totaling $51.1 million globally. While the opening figures fell short of the production's internal projections, the film is expected to recoup its $82-million budget through ancillary revenue streams.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film marks the first collaboration between Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment under a new multi-year distribution agreement. The project, which began production in Australia in August 2025, features a large ensemble cast including Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Callina Liang. The story is set in 1993 and follows Ryu and Ken as they are recruited by Chun-Li to participate in the World Warrior Tournament.
This release follows a complex development history, including a change in distributors from Sony Pictures to Paramount and a change in directors from Danny and Michael Philippou to Sakurai. The franchise has a long history of live-action adaptations, dating back to the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and the 2009 spinoff Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
