Actress Ha-young has officially stepped down from the cast of the live-action adaptation of The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call ahead of its second season. The decision follows public scrutiny regarding historical allegations involving her great-grandfather’s actions during the Japanese colonial period. Netflix confirmed the casting change on September 1, noting that the production respects the actress's position regarding the matter.
Ha-young originally portrayed nurse Jang-mi Cheon in the show's inaugural eight-episode run, which premiered globally in January 2025. The series quickly gained traction, securing the top spot on Netflix’s non-English TV rankings and establishing a significant viewer base. The departure marks a notable shift for the production, as the actress had been previously expected to return for the continuation of the medical drama.
Based on the web novel Trauma Center: Golden Hour by ENT doctor Han Sani, the series has benefited from its source material's established popularity. While the live-action adaptation moves forward, the original webtoon version concluded its English run on WEBTOON on August 9. With the role of Jang-mi Cheon now vacant, it remains to be seen how the production will address the character's absence in the upcoming season.
