Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, the latest installment in the long-running franchise, has achieved a new franchise record, grossing 1.13 billion yen (approximately US$7.1 million) on its opening day in Japan. The film, which premiered on April 11, 2026, sold 739,000 tickets, outperforming last year's opening day earnings of 1.05 billion yen for Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback.
The 29th film in the series focuses on Chihaya Hagiwara, a member of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police's motorcycle division. Miyuki Sawashiro takes on the role of Hagiwara, replacing the late Atsuko Tanaka. The story also features other familiar characters, including Inspector Jugo Yokomizo, Masumi Sera, and Kenji Hagiwara, along with his Police Academy classmate Jinpei Matsuda.
Takahiro Hasui, who previously directed Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine, helmed this new film, with Takahiro Ōkura returning as the scriptwriter after his work on Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter. The musical score was composed by Yūgo Kanno, and the theme song, "Last Danced Anata to" (Last Dance With You), is performed by Misia.
Last year's film, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, also had a strong opening, debuting at the top of the Japanese box office. It went on to become one of Japan's highest-grossing films of all time, earning 14.74 billion yen (about US$95.1 million) and currently ranks as the 20th highest-grossing film in the country.
