Crunchyroll is overhauling its e-commerce strategy, announcing that the Crunchyroll Store will transition to a member-exclusive platform this August. Only users subscribed to the Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan tiers will retain the ability to purchase merchandise once the changes take effect. While the company has yet to confirm the specific cutoff date, they have advised that all current open orders will be processed and shipped as scheduled.
Policy updates accompanying this shift include stricter return guidelines. Moving forward, refunds and exchanges will be granted solely for products that arrive damaged or defective, with select items now categorized as final sale. Additionally, the window for utilizing existing store gift cards is closing, with the company setting an August 14 deadline for their use.
This shift follows a series of significant structural changes for the platform, which surpassed 21 million global paid subscribers earlier this year. The store, which absorbed the inventory of the anime retailer Right Stuf in 2023, will pivot its focus toward curated product drops and platform-exclusive goods. These changes arrive alongside a summer promotional sale currently active on the site, marking the final period of broad access before the new tier-based restrictions are implemented.
