The anime-focused media company Nakama has secured US$6 million in funding for its AniBiz platform, according to a report from Variety. The investment comes from three major industry players: TBS Group, Toei Animation, and TV Tokyo Holdings. Launched on July 2, 2026, by Nakama co-founders Kun Gao, Brady McCollum, and Sae Whan Song, AniBiz serves as a dedicated B2B marketplace designed to connect anime IP rights holders with potential licensees, including consumer brands, manufacturers, and game studios. According to the company, the platform currently hosts over 30 licensors, with a database covering thousands of anime series. The service is intended to replace traditional, fragmented industry networking with a more transparent digital discovery process. Regarding the platform's utility, Gao noted that the service is designed to lower barriers for new licensees and help licensors manage the complexities of the anime economy. AniBiz operates on a tiered model, offering a free profile-creation tier for licensees and a US$49-per-month pro tier that provides access to data feeds on titles and production committees.
