Developer Lobstudio has confirmed that its latest project, Zombie Police: Midsummer Unhappy New Year, will arrive on PC via Steam on November 22. While the PC launch is locked in for late autumn, the studio also noted that a Nintendo Switch port is currently in development, with a release date to be announced at a later time.
The game centers on a unique trio of investigators tasked with solving a mystery involving a VTuber and a supernatural threat looming over Shimofuri Village. Players control Akemi Kabane, a detective who can utilize a 'Zombie Dive' ability to peer into objects and suspects, revealing secrets that are otherwise invisible to the living. She is joined by her partners, the titular Detective Zomby and the stoic Yasu Tamura, as they work to prevent the village from falling into a permanent, supernatural freeze.
This title marks a new entry in Lobstudio’s growing portfolio, following their previous releases such as Sunset Game Shop Shayou and ODEN. With the supernatural comedy-mystery genre seeing consistent interest, the studio’s pivot to this specific blend of detective mechanics and horror-comedy tropes offers a distinct departure from their earlier work. It remains to be seen how the 'Zombie Dive' mechanic will influence the game's pacing compared to traditional point-and-click or visual novel investigation systems.
