Thunder 3, the anime adaptation of Yuki Ikeda's manga, will feature singer-songwriter Yuri performing its opening theme song, titled "Thunderbolt." The anime is set to premiere on Fuji TV's +Ultra programming block on July 8 at 24:45 JST, with worldwide streaming exclusively on Netflix beginning the same day.
The series voice cast includes Sayumi Suzushiro as Pyontarō, Natsumi Kawaida as Tsubame, Eri Akiyama as Hiroshi, and Honoka Mitsubachi as Futaba. Directing the anime is Hiroyuki Seshita, known for his work on Knights of Sidonia, with Hiroshi Seko, who previously worked on Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, overseeing the series scripts. The ending theme, "Shururerira," will be performed by artist -otoha-.
Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English, describing the story as following three ordinary schoolboys who discover a DVD that opens a portal to a parallel universe. When Pyontaro's sister, Futaba, is kidnapped by aliens in this alternate Earth, the boys realize their cartoonish bodies grant them superpowers in the hyper-realistic new world, motivating their rescue mission.
Ikeda's manga launched in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine in May 2022. The series concluded its run on June 5, after entering its climax in January 2025 and briefly pausing due to the author's health before resuming in February. The ninth compiled volume is scheduled for release on July 16.
