The heartwarming manga Haru to Gen 70-sai, Hajimete Kosodate is set to arrive on television this January. The series, which follows the life of a 70-year-old man suddenly tasked with raising his three-year-old granddaughter, will air as a short-format anime on the TV Kanagawa (tvk) channel.

At the heart of the story is Gen, a man who spent years estranged from his family following a divorce. After the death of his daughter, he finds himself in the unexpected position of becoming a primary caregiver for little Haru. The narrative focuses on the emotional hurdles and growth he faces while navigating the complexities of parenthood for the first time in his later years.

Directing the project is Kōdai Satō, known for Tom to Jerry Gokko, with production duties split between IMAGICA Infos, Imageworks Studio, and Studio Nanahoshi. The sound department features director Taeko Miura and sound effects artist Maki Takuma, while the score is composed by bermei.inazawa. Kazuya Takahashi is attached as the executive producer.

Yuka Ōshima first introduced the series on Kadokawa’s vertical-scrolling TATESC Comic platform in December 2022. With the first compiled volume released in March 2024, the transition to a short-form anime format suggests an episodic approach to the source material's character-driven drama. While the January premiere is confirmed, the total episode count for the run remains unannounced.
