Amazon Prime Video has announced a global streaming release for the live-action adaptation of Yugo Aosaki’s acclaimed novel Rock Paper Landmine (Jirai Glico). The series is scheduled to debut on the platform on November 13, bringing the high-stakes psychological thriller to an international audience.
The narrative centers on Mato Imoriya, a high school student with a knack for winning, who enters underground school game battles to protect her friend, Kazahi Koda. The series stars Nana Mori and Aju Makita in the lead roles. The production team includes director Kazuaki Seki, with scripts penned by Tatsuhiro Mishima, Shiori Ueno, and Daiki Kobayashi, and a score composed by Yuma Yamaguchi.
The source material, published by Kadokawa in 2023, has garnered significant critical attention, securing three major Japanese mystery awards in 2024, including the 24th Honkaku Mystery Taisho. The story’s popularity has already spurred a manga adaptation by Medaka Box artist Akira Akatsuki, which began serialization in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine in October 2024.
This project marks another high-profile adaptation for Aosaki, whose previous work, Undead Girl Murder Farce, saw a successful transition to television anime in 2023. Given the author's track record with complex, puzzle-driven narratives, it will be interesting to see how the live-action format handles the intense, logic-based battles described in the source material.
