A new clip from the anime film adaptation of Kaori Mado's novel You, Fireworks, and Our Promise has been released, offering a glimpse of protagonist Makoto Natsume. The film is scheduled to debut in Japanese theaters on July 17.
Shōri Satō, a member of the idol group timelesz, takes on the role of the socially anxious Makoto Natsume. He is joined by actress Nanoka Hara, known for her roles in Suzume and the live-action Oshi no Ko, who voices heroine Aki Hayama. Rie Takahashi will voice a mysterious girl named Haru, while Natsuko Yokosawa portrays Makoto's mother, Yukari.
Directed by Kei Suzuki, who previously worked as assistant director on City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust, the film is being produced by Synergy SP and The Answer Studio. Kōhei Mori penned the screenplay, with character designs by Yūji Watanabe. The story centers on Makoto and Aki, two high school students whose lives become intertwined through a mysterious drawing of a fireworks display, set against the backdrop of the massive Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show.
The film's theme song, "Kienai Hanabi" (Eternal Fireworks), is performed by idol group timelesz. An adaptation of the novel into a manga is also in development.
