ZAN, the anime project based on artwork by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano, has unveiled its production staff, comprised of several veterans from the mecha anime genre. The team includes individuals who previously collaborated on titles like Armored Trooper Votoms, signaling a significant return to classic mecha production for the project.
Masashi Ikeda and Tōru Yoshida are set to direct the anime. Ryōsuke Takahashi, creator of Votoms, will pen the series scripts, while Moriyasu Taniguchi takes on the role of chief animation director. Mechanical design will be handled by Kunio Ōkawara, a legendary figure known for his work across numerous Gundam series and other iconic mecha shows.
Previously announced as a film in 2010 and later rebooted as a series in 2022, ZAN is now confirmed as a limited anime series. Amano established Yoshitaka Amano Inc. in Los Angeles to oversee production. The project's first trailer is slated for release at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3, with Takahashi, Yoshida, and Taniguchi also scheduled to attend.
The ZAN anime is part of a broader multimedia initiative that includes a P2E blockchain game and NFT art, with development support from Singaporean firm Trophee. Amano's distinctive art style has previously been featured in projects like Vampire Hunter D and the Final Fantasy series.
