During the Level 5 Vision 2026 II Dream livestream, developer Level 5 announced a significant platform expansion for Yo-kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain. The updated version of the classic Nintendo 3DS title, which was previously slated only for the Nintendo Switch 2, will now also launch on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. An extended trailer showcased during the event highlights familiar faces like Jibanyan, Whisper, and Nate, while offering a fresh look at updated gameplay mechanics and new Yo-kai creatures.
This release marks a notable shift for the franchise, which has historically maintained a strong association with Nintendo hardware. While the original Yo-kai Watch 2 titles—Bony Spirits, Fleshy Souls, and Psychic Specters—were staples of the 3DS era, the series has gradually explored multi-platform releases, such as the PlayStation 4 version of Yo-kai Watch 4++ in 2019.
For long-time followers of the series, the inclusion of PC and PlayStation 5 suggests a broader strategy for the franchise's revival. While the original Yo-kai Watch Switch remaster remained exclusive to the Japanese market, the announcement of a multi-platform release for Haunted Domain raises questions about the scope of its international distribution. With the game featuring the iconic theme song "Geragerapō no Uta," it remains to be seen how much of the original 3DS content will be overhauled for modern hardware.
