During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, the company unveiled fresh details for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 edition. The updated release introduces a new character named Shimmer and a dedicated 'Heroes' Vault' mode. This new mode shifts the gameplay experience toward a roguelite structure, tasking players with defeating enemies to unlock a variety of character upgrades.

The title is scheduled for a December 3 release, arriving in both physical and digital formats. For fans who already own the original version of the RPG on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo confirmed an upgrade pack will be available to access the new content.

This release follows a series of updates for the franchise on the new hardware, including recent editions for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Looking further ahead, the publisher also confirmed that a brand-new installment, Xenoblade Genesis, is currently in development for a 2027 launch on the Switch 2 platform.

With the addition of roguelite elements to the third mainline entry, it remains to be seen how these mechanics will integrate with the existing expansion pass content released throughout 2022 and 2023. Given the technical enhancements seen in previous Switch 2 ports, such as the 4K resolution and 60fps performance in the Definitive Edition, players may be curious to see how the expanded scope of the third game performs on the new hardware.
