The upcoming anime film adaptation of Type-Moon's Witch on the Holy Night visual novel has confirmed the return of its main voice cast. Haruka Tomatsu will reprise her role as Aoko Aozaki, Kana Hanazawa will return as Alice Kuonji, and Yūsuke Kobayashi is back as Sōjūrō Sizuki. The film is being produced by the acclaimed animation studio ufotable.
The story is set in the late 1980s and centers on Aoko Aozaki, who reluctantly begins her apprenticeship under the young witch Alice Kuonji. Aoko must balance her magical studies with her duties as a student council president and navigate the arrival of Sōjūrō Shizuki, a new transfer student unfamiliar with the modern world. The plot also involves Aoko's older sister, Tōko Aozaki, who feels her birthright has been denied.
Type-Moon's visual novel, originally released in 2012, saw a Western release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in December 2022, selling over 150,000 copies worldwide. The game later became available on Steam in December 2023. Witch on the Holy Night is a significant work within the 'Nasuverse,' sharing a cosmology with other Type-Moon titles like Tsukihime and Fate/stay night.
