The hit webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die is making the jump to the small screen. Following the conclusion of the series' 214-chapter run this past Sunday, publisher Kakao Piccoma confirmed that a television anime adaptation is currently in development. To celebrate the milestone, a commemorative visual was released, highlighting the end of Penelope Eckhart’s harrowing journey.
Originally starting as a web novel by Gyeoeul Gwon in 2019, the story found massive success through its webtoon adaptation illustrated by SUOL. The narrative follows a university student who finds herself reincarnated into the body of Penelope Eckhart, the doomed villainess of an otome game. Trapped in a 'hard mode' reality where every choice could lead to her death, Penelope must navigate the dangerous affections of a tyrant prince, a suspicious magician, and her own hostile adoptive brothers to survive.
This series has built a significant international following, with English digital releases available via Tapas and physical volumes published by Yen Press under their Ize Press imprint. While the main story has reached its finale, the upcoming anime serves as a major expansion for the franchise, bringing the high-stakes political intrigue and romance of the original webtoon to a new medium.
